Alaska Ports

View Alaska's Inside Passage in a larger map Alaska ports of call along the Inside Passage:

More than a century ago Alaska’s Inside Passage was the traditional route taken to the Klondike goldfields. Today, it is the centerpiece for Alaska Cruises. Carved by the staggering force of massive glaciers millions of years ago the region boasts wildlife-filled fjords, lush island scenery and snow-capped mountains. The mild, maritime climate makes the area prime habitat for bald eagles, sea lions, porpoises and whales.

The picturesque coastal communities are rich in history. Russian settlers left a legacy in well-preserved churches and other historical structures. Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian Native cultures dominated the area and are reflected in ancient totem poles abundant in many communities.

The towns of Southeast Alaska, also known as the Panhandle, are linked by air and the Alaska Marine Highway (the state ferry system); only Haines and Skagway have road links to “the Outside.”
